Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, fiends, and dark forces growing in strength within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to begin their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are rare.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

First, the group knows exactly where to head next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise started the story’s plot—used the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.

The antagonist then settled his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan knows the region and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could help the team access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to travel to the remote area in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the players to form the Questers and Strategists tables.

Fans can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
